What is a high ambient heat pump kit?

In situations where a heat pump is utilized during mild weather conditions, typically above 60 degrees, there is a possibility of encountering a head pressure issue. This occurs because the heat pump's capacity can surpass its cooling capabilities in such weather conditions.

To address this concern, the mild weather kit incorporates a mechanism that intermittently turns off the outdoor fan when the head pressure becomes too high. By halting the operation of the outdoor fan, the load on the outdoor coil is reduced, leading to a decrease in suction pressure and subsequently lowering the head pressure. The outdoor fan will cycle on and off based on the head pressure to effectively prevent any high pressure faults.
